Finish high school in UK

Finish high school in UK ?
I live in Belgium, and I'm doing my 5th year secondary (11th grade?) here, one more year to go before college. For a stupid mistake that I did, I got expelled from school 2 months before finishing my 5th (which was actually a week ago, my grades were good, thats not the problem). I want to study/live/work in UK. I have the money, a place to stay and I know people there. But I'm not really familiar with the education system, GED and the rest. Is it possible to finish high school in UK ? if so, can I get accepted into 6th grade instead of repeating 5th again. or maybe I should go for a GED ? Will I get accepted into a college with a GED (ICT related courses) ? What are my choices ? BIG THANKS !!!!

GED is not the way to go. It is more respectable to go all the way through. Some institutions take that as the easy way out of the classroom. A standard diploma has more weight than that and some universities and jobs will not consider applicants with a GED. It depends on if all your credits from your high school have equivalents in the UK. That will determine if you must repeat Grade 5 again. You will have to send full transcripts to the Kingdom. Some schools may block you from transferring if the offence was really bad. Since you are Belgian (from Wallonie or Vlaans I don't know) and not from an Anglophonic country, you may also have to ace an English competency test in order to be integrated with other high school students or be given special attention with ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. Your English seems fine to me though.

Is it a good idea to attend a university outside of the US, such as the UK after finishing high school

Is it a good idea to attend a university outside of the US, such as the UK after finishing high school?
Please share your thoughts/opinions/ideas about having a graduating high school student attend a university in the UK, rather than in the US? You guys think it's a good or bad idea?

I think it is a good idea. But, I don't know much about any Universitys in the U.S or U.K, because I live in Australia. Sometimes you need to move away to receive the best education for the career you are wishing to join, particualy if your career is in science. Just chose the school with the highest education, and its totally up to you. But just be careful because this will be a big decision. Good Luck, and work hard!

Regal and Finley used to train wrestlers, but I don't think they do anymore. It's my understanding that Wiggun is THE place for UK wrestlers to learn traditional English style (Dynamite Kid started there). Is that up north? I'm from across the pond, so what do I know? -)

whats a good ballet school in uk that has dorms?

Hello again! Do you mean an upper school (16+)? If you're talking about a 3 year BA course or National diploma, they generally accept people 16 years or over, some schools are 18 but think that's mainly contemporary. Most of them don't have dorms. The Royal Ballet (upper) School as far as i'm aware organize guardians for under 18's to live with of if you're 18 you can make your own arrangements, lots of people live with friends (usually from their year group) English National Ballet school have a hostel set up, so that is kind of like dorms. Central School of Ballet, I think they organize their own living arrangements or the have a guardian sort of set up. Elmhurst have dorms, houses that the upper school students share. Rambert are guardians or if you older find your own (they help you find stuff). But generally speaking all the people i know prefer to live with their friends and piers from their year. If you where talking about lower schools, Royal have white lodge boarding school), Elmhurst the same and the other schools i mentioned don't have lower schools. Hope that helps!

Anyone in Uk, Or USA, help me with this school decision!! it's very important

Anyone in Uk, Or USA, help me with this school decision!! it's very important?
OK, so just to stART off here's some backround info on the school sytems. UK: You go to primary and secondary school. Then when you're done with secondary you go to get your A levels, at the age of 16-18.(2 years) USA:You go to ghischool, graduate hgihschool at 18, then go to college. I really WANT TO GO TO A COLLEGE IN the UK. Like i'm sure of it. I'm in 9th grade, and here's the catch. I'm deciding between graduating highscool and trying to get in to a uni in the UK(it's hard to get in if overseas and about 3 times as much money) Or, after 10th grade going to get my A levels in the UK, so i can get in to a uni in the UK easier, and A TON less money. Which one do you think i should do? Either way, i'm getting a better education for the future. It's just that i am goin to live in the UK when i'm older, and so i think i should go to et my A levles at 16, because ppl out there know what it is, but i'm not sure. what do you think

2 :
You can't do A-levels if you don't do GCSEs. The best thing to do, If you really want to do A-levels, is to move to the UK as soon as possible. You would be in 2 months into Year 10, which is like a GCSE preparation year. The following (year 11) would be the year you would do your GCSEs. If You need more information on GCSEs or anything else, leave a message.

Think really carefully...the UK is not a fantastic place to be...expensive, crowded, miserable weather, hard to get a house. Are you sure? If so, I would get over here and do the A levels first
2 :
I think the easiest way to go about it would be to stay in the US and go to a private school which offers the IB (International Baccalaureate) course, which is accepted by UK universities, and in some ways preferred over A-levels. I think this would actually be a good deal cheaper than moving to England to finish High School. I don't really understand why you think it would be cheaper to go to uni in England if you lived there for a couple of years before hand. Do you have dual citizenship or something? Do you have family in the UK? I don't think going to a foreign country on your own at 16 would be a very good idea, In fact, I'm not sure if it would be allowed under immigration law.

What is the difference between a grammar school, private school and a comprehensive school in the UK.?

Other - Education - 1 Answers

In the past students took an exam at 12 and if they passed they went to the grammar school to do more difficult courses history, geography, Latin, maths. This would lead to O and A levels. If they failed they went to the secondary modern where they generally did practical courses and did CSE exams, The system continues in a few places like Buckinghamshire but students all do GCSE's now. In most places this system was scrapped and replaced by schools who taught everything to everyone (a comprehensive education). All of the above are government run Private schools don't exist. I think you mean Public schools are ones which people pay for their children to attend such as Eton, Harrow

Yes - Hobbycraft. They do large containers of different paints in the children's section. Also, have a look at the website for Fred Aldous, a supplier of many different art and crafts materials. And most high streets will have an Early Learning Centre (often within a Mothercare). and what used to be Partners (now Rymans), and the officer supply store Staples might have them (not so sure, though).

i dont know if this will help at all but.... i'm not sure how you're school is about transferring credits and so on, but there are a lot of exchange programs that would allow you do complete one year of school in another country and have it count for one year of school at your high school. AFS is an awesome program. We hosted quite a few students when i was younger.
2 :
Contact the British Council in your city or region or go to their website http://www.britishcouncil.org. You may also want to search for a list of private schools and pre-university colleges: http://www.educationuk.org/ In general, I believe you may need to complete the GCSE program that usually lasts 2 years, once you complete this course, then you will go on to prepare for your A-level exams or for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Do some research, get a list of schools and colleges that offer admission to international students (use the links above), and contact the schools directly. Good luck!

Well technically you aren't old enough to be on your own. Since most school require to see your parents to attend to get you into highschool plus birth records and addresses. If you have the money for an apartment and car and all that stuff then go right ahead. GoodLuck! =]
2 :
The only way would to be an exchange student, other then that you won't be able to just come over to go to school at that age. And school is different here...we really don't have "A-levels", and in order to graduate, you need to stay in school until you're 17 or 18.
3 :
Are you crazy. 16 and by yourself? You'll be pimped out within two weeks. If your serious, then check on exchange student programs, otherwise do yourself a favor and stop thinking america is a sweet and innocent place. You'll get straight jacked here with that "trusting" attitued.
4 :
High school would be difficult for you, especially as US schools don't offer A-levels and would require you to be there for the whole four years of high school. You could however look into going to university in America. This isn't cheap, but it would give you a great experience. I went to college in San Diego, California, and I would absolutely recommend it. You could contact individual universities for details of financial aid and scholarships that would be available to international students. Good luck!
5 :
US high schools don't offer A levels. The closest US equivalent is either the IB diploma, which not every school offers, or AP classes and exams, which many schools do. You can't move to the US on your own and attend a public school (a school you don't pay for.) You won't be given a visa. The exception would be if you enrol in a US private school (a school where you pay tuition to attend, and can live there - a boarding school, like Eaton and etc.) You'd be able to attend a school like that, live on campus, and etc., as an international student. Many of those schools offer the IB diploma, and AP classes/exams. There are even some British schools in the US that offer A levels. British schools in America: http://www.britishschool.org/ Some private schools I'd have you look at include: Choate Rosemary Hall ̢ۢ Deerfield Academy ̢ۢ The Hill School ̢ۢ Hotchkiss School ̢ۢ Lawrenceville School ̢ۢ Loomis Chaffee ̢ۢ Phillips Academy Andover ̢ۢ Phillips Exeter Academy ̢ۢ St. Paul's School ̢ۢ Taft School ̢ۢ Cushing Academy ̢ۢ Northfield Mount Herman School ̢ۢ Groton School ̢ۢ Harvey School ̢ۢ Hackley School Another option is to attend university in the US. There are some "early college (university) programs" in the US, which allow students of your age and academic level to jump right to university. Simon's Rock of Bard College is the most famous of these, but there are others.

Depends on your other qualifications and experience, but generally, people take a PGCE course at uni or college which could be anything between 1 to 3 years and you're set. Entry requirements for this course will vary. again, depending on what qualifications you have already. All the best.
2 :
You can go to university and do a teaching degree which last three years. If you already have a degree you can do a PGCE which takes a year. You will specialise in the area your degree was in. Hope this helps

Yes and no. If you get an MD at an accredited UK university you will get a very good medical education, as good as at a US university. But the way the medical profession is regulated medical degrees earned in one country do not automatically allow you to practice in another. So you would have to re-qualify in the US.

I lived in UK for three years. Wonderful. London mainly. But I was QUITE READY to come back to the USA and in fact could NOT have stayed there any longer. I am fairly certain this applies to MOST people from the USA. Has to do with sunlight and a lot of things. Where in the USA would you do a Residency and in what? Check with possible places. If you are willing to work as military doctor, say in the Navy or Air Force, they would likely bend over backwards to set you up, another possibility. There are Residencies just like everywhere else. If the USA does not take you, no problem, CANADA will. That all is a long way off in the future to be worrying about now. Generally, I recommend a three-year focus for planning with MOST ALL the work being done in the HERE and NOW. Misuse of the present moment changes the entire future, and other things can happen too. Thus the saying, 'the best laid plans of mice and men [often go astray] and leave us not but grief and pain for promised joy.' Not to be discouraging. Just pointing out it never turns out QUITE the way one expects. But you must work on your goals nevertheless. Persistence and steadfastness towards the lesser objectives which add up to the whole and to that distant point you want. On top of all that, everything is constantly changing -- faster than ever. We all need a solid kernel of wisdom and good practice to see us through. Hang in there, and keep clicking things off.

Make sure you take a raincoat. Anything else you can get in London. You may want to check your grammar so that the Brits don't take the piss out of you too much —and by the way, if they're 'pissed', it doesn't mean they hate you, but rather that they're drunk... Enjoy London, one of the world's best cities.
8 :
Patience and a good attitude. Leave arrogance behind and you'll have no problems at all... Bring warm clothing, as if it were snowing...
9 :
It's changeable. Do bring a light anorak and a warm coat.... You can carry your coat, not pack it, tell air staff you are going to England and they will understand. Don't pack too much cos you will buy back souvenirs/clothes from UK anyway. Also, wear a pair of your jeans and sneakers, cos they weigh a lot. Don't carry too much paper/books if you can help it, they weigh a lot, too. Shampoos and stuff like that you can buy here. Discuss with fellow students what you will be bringing so that you can pool resources eg dictionaries. Have fun! Any suggestions to going to the states to study?

I do not think it too young, as it teaches them how to interact with their peers in an acceptable manner if nothing else. Medical School in UK

Medical School in UK????
I live in the U.S and plan to apply for med school in the U.S after i graduate college, however I heard that in the UK you can apply right into med school.... can anyone please explain how that works and if thats a good idea or not?

1 :
Im in my second year of med school and i'm 19... We just apply straight out of school directly to med school and don't have to do another degree first. Its 6 years (with an one year Bsc year) or 5 without- depends on the uni you go to. My year has quite a few international students and some canadians but no americans... it might be because exams for international candidates wanting to practice in the US only let 10% in. Try individual uni websites and good luck!
2 :
Most students in European countries enter medical school directly out of high school. However, they have declared that intent early in high school and are enrolled in higher level courses--what we call Advanced Placement courses. Because of that, your 'academic credentials" coming out of a US high school may be inadequate. There is a service, called UCAS ( http://www.ucas.co.uk/) that can evaluate your transcript and advise and assist in you rectifying any deficiencies or select and apply to a school. Each school in the UK has its own admission requirements. The International Medical Education Directory (http://imed.ecfmg.org/) will let you research each one. You appear to be unaware that there are medical schools in the US that will accept you directly out of high school. These programs are called Combined Degree programs and are also six years, as are the UK programs. In this program you obtain your undergrad degree while also pursuing your MD. This link will take you to a list of the schools: http://services.aamc.org/currdir/section3/degree2.cfm?data=yes&program=bsmd You should be aware that every foreign trained physician has to pass the US Medical Licensing Exam in order to be licensed in the US. The problem with this is that the first of the exams is the hardest and is all science and these physicians have been out of the classrooms for several years. As a result, there is a high failure rate. Finally, I think it is a mistake to go to the UK from a pure financial perspective. As a foreign student, your tuition costs would be tripled to quadrupled. Good luck with your research!

Generally all medical schools are pretty expensive, but you could always start off at a community college and transfer to a medical school.

I just answered a very similar question to this one! I guess it's a popular subject today :) On a student visa you are NOT eligible for ANY UK assistance, including loans. However, you can still take a US federal loan with you, provided that you are attending a university that participates in the federal direct loan scheme. You are eligible for the same amount that you would be eligible if you were attending a US school. It is also important to note that all students are GUARANTEED these loans regardless of credit. It can be somewhat of a long process to study overseas. While loans may seem like the most important thing to consider, you will have quite a bit more to do before you are even able to apply for the loan. I know that it can be confusing (and overwhelming at times). Here's a basic outline of where you should start: 1. Find a university that you want to attend. Nearly every major British university participates in the loan program, so you have PLENTY to choose from. Personally, I am studying at the University of Leeds, and it is a GREAT school and city. Birmingham is also gorgeous (plus they have the Cadbury factory there! ummm). I've also heard good things about the University of Manchester, but I actually don't know much about it. Those are all fairly large cities too, but if you are looking for larger - there are obviously tons of options in London. Plenty of smaller cities too, if you're looking for countryside (University of Nottingham or University of Bath). 2. Apply to the universities. They all use a common system for undergraduate programs - so you only have to fill out one application. You'll be done until you get offered a place and accept it. 3. Here you'll start worrying about the loan! Your university will prepare a statement detailing your costs. You'll need this sent on to the lender you'll chose. I used SallieMae. It was very easy! 4. At the same time as the loan, you'll need to be gathering your stuff for the headache of the visa, which they have made even more strict in the last few months...you'll need a Tier 4 student visa. Okay...so that's just some basic info (and some recommendations). Hope it helped! Good luck with everything!! :)

Is University of Liverpool in the UK a decent school?
I need to get my master's degree online. It is the only way I can do it. The University of Liverpool has an online degree program, but I'm naturally skeptical. Have you heard of this school? I don't want to waste my money on a school that is essentially a "degree mill".

If Hogwarts is the wizarding school of the UK, that where are the wizard schools of the USA

If Hogwarts is the wizarding school of the UK, that where are the wizard schools of the USA?
Since America's twenty times bigger than the UK and Ireland population wise, there would probably be at least four different wizarding schools. Where would they be? Here's what I was thinking Kids from Washington State, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Hawaii and California would go to the same school, probably maybe in Big Sur, California or way out on the coast of Oregon. Kids from Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, North Dakota, Alaska and Oklahoma would probably go to the same school, probably in an unpopulated around like around Wyoming. Kids from Missouri, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia would go to the same school, probably way out in the mountains of Tennessee. Kids from Louisiana, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Minnesota, and Michigan would probably go to the same school. I'm thinking in the Louisiana swamp near New Orleans. The New England school would consist of Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, DC, and Delaware. Maybe it will be in Upstate New York.

How does a UK GCSE equate to a US high school diploma

How does a UK GCSE equate to a US high school diploma?
In the UK, students leave high school at at 16, whereas obviously in the US the leaving age is 18. I am from the UK (I'm 18) and wanting to apply to a US university following living here for a year already. However, I have not done either AS or A2 when I lived in the UK. Though I imagine University of Phoenix or the like will likely admit me anyway, I just wanted to get an idea of whether a US high school student is "more educated" when they leave than a UK student would be at 16, or whether they're basically the same things somehow? Thanks!

Are you joking? The U.S. public educational system is a broken pathetic joke. A true disservice to Americans. As long as you've completed primary school you're golden. To answer your question, US high school students , in my opinion, are LESS educated than an equivalent UK student. One thing you will need to do is take the S.A.T. (Scholastic Aptitude Test) that is required in the states. You can sign up to take it through the college board web site. The US DOES have high quality universities , so you're making a good decision going abroad to further your higher education. Good Luck and if you have a child while in the states, send him/her to private school.... sad but necessary.

Can an aussie child go to school in the uk

Can an aussie child go to school in the uk?
I am British but my child is australian and coming to live with me in the UK...does she need 2 passports??

1 :
I wouildn't know about that, but in most cases when you are a citizen of a country your child who is a foreigner normally gets special permission to live with you. You should check with the proper authority in your area
2 :
If she enters the country on her Australian passport, she will need a settlement visa. As long as she is aged between 5-18, she will be entitled to go to school in the UK. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf6familymembers The problems really start once she is over 18. As she will no longer be a minor, she has to have either a student visa to remain in the UK or a UK/EEA passport unless she is granted ILR on arrival when she comes to live with you, which she probably would be. If she is entitled to a British passport, it is worth the hassle as she can travel visa free throughout Europe and live, work and study where she chooses. As an Australian, she needs a visa for anything other than tourism.
3 :
If you are British then she is entitled to a British passport too, and that allows her to be a British resident. For the sake of ease, it'd be far better for her to have both passports. Without British citizenship, she will always have to be applying for visas, both to stay within the UK and to travel within the EU zone.
4 :
yes she can go
5 :
If you are British through being born in the UK, then your daughter is also a British citizen, by descent, though her children will not be unless they are actually born in the UK. It will save a great deal of trouble later on if she gets a UK passport (check the website of the High Commission in Canberra, though I think all UK passports in Australasia are now issued from NZ). Note that the qualification for getting UK domestic fee rates for higher education is residency, not citizenship - if she wants to pay UK rates for university courses she has to have been resident in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of her course, regardless of what citizenship she holds.

Well I don't have children yet but I know that each school is different and it varies from early September to later. If you're not sure it's best to phone them up and ask, it's near the beginning of term anyway so there should be someone there.
2 :
I go back on the second, it's somewhere like that. Go on the school's website and check if they have one or ask someone else who goes to that school because chances are it'll be a different day. =]
3 :
it depends which borough and when you broke up, try your local borough councils website.
4 :
I start school on the 8th September but it varies from school to school. Try calling your school, I'm sure they'll be able to help you. Good luck! :)

Because medical schools in the states want older, more psychologically mature candidates who have had more time to think about what they want to do for the rest of their lives, and more time to develop skills and interests outside of the field of law or medicine. There's a reason that american doctors can work in any country, but not the other way around. ;)

Should the World at War be part of the history curriculum in Uk schools

Should the World at War be part of the history curriculum in Uk schools?
Having just watched the World at War documentory on UK TV history I I have come to belive that this series should be shown to children at some point in history in schools in the UK. With current affairs being what they are I think it would help influence the next generation. I also think that we should never forget the horrific times people went through in the second world war and having this series shown to young people it may help it to never happen again.

I'm going to go to an independent school in UK and will be entering Year 11 and it's in 2 weeks. I don't know when I'll get my Visa but I'm afraid it'll make me miss my first day of school (on Friday). Is it okay if I miss it? Also, this is a secondary school. Not a college or university.

no if you miss the first day you can't come the whole year
2 :
Contact the school in advance if you're going to be unable to attend for the first day or so. Likely all that you'll miss will be the orientation, where they give you a chance to get used to your new schedule and the unfamiliar layout of the building. You'll probably want to make some time on your own, once you do get there, to explore the buildings a bit and find out where your classes are, so you aren't running around aimlessly on the first day you attend.

I'm an American, can I go to Law School in the UK and then practice there

I'm an American, can I go to Law School in the UK and then practice there?
I'm an American citizen and I'm interested in going to Law School in England, and then living there. Is it possible to do this, and could I practice in England after I graduate?
Other - United Kingdom - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Yes, whether you are an American citizen or some other country, you can attend Law School in England. However if you request for work permit/authorization upon graduation, you would want to have the law firm hiring you to file your document. You might want to go your own this way you will be working for yourself and don't need the permission but expense of setting up your own law firm. Good luck :-)
2 :
If you get accepted to study here that's one thing, getting a visa afterwards to enable you to live and work in the UK is altogether more difficult.
3 :
Doubtful, unless you happen to marry a UK/EU citizen. Law is not a high-need field, and any firm is going to have a difficult time trying to justify their attempts at hiring a US citizen when there are thousands of new UK graduates looking for work. You can, however, practice law in some US states with a UK law degree. You will just need to pass the bar in that state when you return.
4 :
We do not have specific 'law schools' in the UK, as you do, I believe, in the US. Remember we also have a split profession, barristers who tend to do higher Court work and from whom judges tend to be selected and Solicitors who tend to advise the public direct, However, these distinctions are becoming more and more blurred as Solicitors get rights to appear in higher Courts and direct access by the public is allowed to barristers. These days, usually entry to both branches of the profession (bar and solicitors) is via a University degree. If you degree is not in Law, the you will need to take the Common Professional Examination (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Professional_Examination) following which (or straight away if you have a Law Degree) you take Legal Practice Course for solicitors or the Bar Professional Training Course for barristers. Further details on these courses can be found at http://www.college-of-law.co.uk/home/. You must also remember the position in different in Scotland and Northern Ireland which have their own legal systems and methods of training. However, that having been said, the chances of your getting a visa to come here and work are pretty slim for reasons others have explained. Your best chance, to be honest, is to train as a US lawyer, and then seeks positions with US firms with a UK presence and then, possibly, take UK examinations to qualify here.
5 :
Yes if you have the requisite 2 English law degrees you can practice in the U.K. (Scottish law is different to English law). You would probably need a work visa as well, although by the time you get your 2 law degrees, you will have probably been here for 3 years and demonstrated good character etc, so it might not be so difficult. Make sure you have the correct student visa before starting your studies. You can make a great deal of money in the legal profession if you are good at it. I get the impression from a friend who is a solicitor, that it is rather an over subscribed profession at present.

Can you help with everything I'd need to know when switching from an American school system to the UK school

Can you help with everything I'd need to know when switching from an American school system to the UK school?
Here's the deal I hate my life as is and I'm simply tired of waiting around for something to happen to me. Since my family simply doesn't want to move, I thought of boarding school which lead me to boarding school in England. On my bucket list I have live in England for a year, and that would be crossed off it I went to school there, plus I'd get away from this place I hate while my family could stay here. Obviously I'd miss my family a lot but I've lost all my friends {because I've moved seven times before} and the ones I've made here sadly aren't much different so I wouldn't miss them much. For some reason listening to British accents calms me down and I love the rain, as far as I know it rains a ton in England. My parents also worry about how shy I am, if they aren't there I'd have to take charge for myself but I'd also have to live under the schools watch and I'm not sure how strict that is, plus I've never had to share a room with anyone before. And that's the basics. I've been told that because I'm an 11th grader in America I'd be a fifth form/ lower sixth/ year 12 in England so how many total years of school would I have left? In America I'd finish this grade go to 12th grade and then hit about 4 years of college, so five years in total. Legally how could/ would I stay there? Neither of my parents would come with me and I know no one in England, I have family in Germany and that's the closest even as friends. Would I have to fill out legal papers for that, if so what? Could I even stay there for a full school year, because somewhere I read I could only stay for six months? How old to you have to be to drive there? And how old to work? Chances are I'd have to work. Financially why is it so expensive to go to school in England, for me in America it's free 'til I hit college, then again I go to public school. Would my family be able to get assistance with paying for school, like a scholarship? Do a lot of British people even go to British boarding schools or is it all people from separate countries? Any tips or concerns you have for a teenage girl leaving home to go to school in a place literally foreign to her? Do you think I should go? Any boarding school suggestions? Thank you so much, almost anything will be helpful

Well first off I'd like to congratulate you on such a loaded question. It seems that you really are passionate about moving to England. I have lived in England so I can tell you a little bit about it. You are correct that you would be in fifth form there. Fifth and sixth form, I believe, are optional, you don't have to take them. You will have to fill out visa paperwork to allow you to enter the country, being you are an American citizen and will have to apply for a provisional license, at 17, before obtaining your proper license. There are some differences here though, because nearly all English cars have a manual(stick shift) transmission and so require strict lessons, whereas in the United States a simple driving course is enough. I'm afraid that scholarships don't really exist in England anymore. But most of all, I want to wish you luck if you go ahead and travel to England to take on schooling there. Don't be afraid, England is very similar to the United States, if anything the only thing you'll struggle with is understanding the humour! And, by the way, you're right that it rains very commonly there. Travelling and broadening your horizons is a great idea! Have fun!!!!
