Medical School in UK????
I live in the U.S and plan to apply for med school in the U.S after i graduate college, however I heard that in the UK you can apply right into med school.... can anyone please explain how that works and if thats a good idea or not?

Im in my second year of med school and i'm 19... We just apply straight out of school directly to med school and don't have to do another degree first. Its 6 years (with an one year Bsc year) or 5 without- depends on the uni you go to. My year has quite a few international students and some canadians but no americans... it might be because exams for international candidates wanting to practice in the US only let 10% in. Try individual uni websites and good luck!

Most students in European countries enter medical school directly out of high school. However, they have declared that intent early in high school and are enrolled in higher level courses--what we call Advanced Placement courses. Because of that, your 'academic credentials" coming out of a US high school may be inadequate. There is a service, called UCAS ( http://www.ucas.co.uk/) that can evaluate your transcript and advise and assist in you rectifying any deficiencies or select and apply to a school. Each school in the UK has its own admission requirements. The International Medical Education Directory (http://imed.ecfmg.org/) will let you research each one. You appear to be unaware that there are medical schools in the US that will accept you directly out of high school. These programs are called Combined Degree programs and are also six years, as are the UK programs. In this program you obtain your undergrad degree while also pursuing your MD. The problem with this is that the first of the exams is the hardest and is all science and these physicians have been out of the classrooms for several years. As a result, there is a high failure rate. Finally, I think it is a mistake to go to the UK from a pure financial perspective. As a foreign student, your tuition costs would be tripled to quadrupled.
