Because medical schools in the states want older, more psychologically mature candidates who have had more time to think about what they want to do for the rest of their lives, and more time to develop skills and interests outside of the field of law or medicine. There's a reason that american doctors can work in any country, but not the other way around. ;)

Should the World at War be part of the history curriculum in Uk schools

Should the World at War be part of the history curriculum in Uk schools?
Having just watched the World at War documentory on UK TV history I I have come to belive that this series should be shown to children at some point in history in schools in the UK. With current affairs being what they are I think it would help influence the next generation. I also think that we should never forget the horrific times people went through in the second world war and having this series shown to young people it may help it to never happen again.

Yes so the kids of todat can see what the countries of the world were like years ago!

It would probably be good to really show the horrors of WWII - people have already forgotten what happens when dictators are allowed to gain power and no one takes any action to stop them before it's too late.

What happens if I miss my first day of my new school

What happens if I miss my first day of my new school?
I'm going to go to an independent school in UK and will be entering Year 11 and it's in 2 weeks. I don't know when I'll get my Visa but I'm afraid it'll make me miss my first day of school (on Friday). Is it okay if I miss it? Also, this is a secondary school. Not a college or university.

no if you miss the first day you can't come the whole year

Contact the school in advance if you're going to be unable to attend for the first day or so. Likely all that you'll miss will be the orientation, where they give you a chance to get used to your new schedule and the unfamiliar layout of the building. You'll probably want to make some time on your own, once you do get there, to explore the buildings a bit and find out where your classes are, so you aren't running around aimlessly on the first day you attend.
