I am currently a sophomore in high school in DC but I will be moving to England this coming school year. I am confused about how the school system works there and what grade I will be in. I just need information about...everything. Help!

You'd be in Year 11. Which is typically the last year at a Secondary School, or I guess High School as you would call it. However you might be moved down a Year to Year 10, as that's typically when learning starts for the main Qualifications called GCSE's. After Year 11 you would choose and go to a College, which would be your Junior and Senior years. Or if your school has a 6th Form (which is the same as college but carried on from your own school.) You'd go into Year 12 and then 13. You would gain qualifications typically called A-Levels here. After College you have the option of going to University, which the equivalent of College. You have to pay in order to study here. You would obtain a Degree in the subject of your chosen study, and depending on your course depends how much you pay and how long it takes. As far as grades go, the years you would be in you'd get things like A, B, C's etc. The worst you can get is a U which is Ungraded, it then goes from a G to an A*, with A* being the best. An A* is the same as an A+. You also low, medium and high grades. So for example a low C is worse then a high C. Although some teachers don't use these. As for driving and other things. You can legally learn how to drive when you are 17. It involves two tests a Theory exam, which is a written exam and then your actual driving test in the car. Legal drinking age is 18, and you can smoke legally when 16 but can't buy cigarettes until you are 18. All smoking must be done outside and in viable areas. Hope I helped :)

well i'm from england and go to school now so i'll do my best to help. sophomore is the tenth grade in america but in england it is year 11 (same as me) if your coming the year after that then you will be in sixth from, lower sixth to be exact, which is year 12. the grades are the same in the US. you know A B C D etc but there aren't any Plus or minus grades however there is A* except in year 13. what grade are you in the US? say and i'll try to tell you what grade you will be round about. i'm sure you'll be fine when you come. i think the most unfair difference you'll find is that the driving age is 18 :) . what you learn might be a bit different but i'm sure you'll catch on. hope this helps. ask me if there is anything else you would like to know.

Primary school- ages 4-11 High school- ages 11-16 College/Sixth Form- ages 16-18 (or older if a mature student) University- 18+ After that, it's not compulsary to go to school after 16 years old.
